YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION

No one is entitled to their own opinion. In the past, many of us have been told that we are entitled to our opinion but turns out that's not true at all. Turns out we're only entitled to what we can argue for which is really surprising. We often use "I'm entitled to my opinion" to tell others what we belief or think about something/someone. Since everyone has different opinions, it can cause things to go wrong and it can cause some misunderstanding. There is no law stating that others must sit there and listen to your opinion and this makes you not entitled to your opinion. I guess I can personally say that I've been living a lie for the longest time. I used to think that I was entitled to my opinion but I guess that just happens to be a lie that I'm barely finding out about today. It's important for EVERYONE to know that they're not actually entitled to their opinion because it can save from making a fool of themselves in front of people.

Socratic Seminar Part 1

Today we were discussing about love : We all hope to have someone special be a part of our lives  We want that special someone to always be there to support us Love is something that everyone has experienced or is going to someday Normally love is the first emotion we encounter There are some people who are afraid of loving because they've had their heart broken Love tends to make someone vulnerable Sometimes extreme desire can lead people to fantasying about relationships that are never going to happen Love is an emotion that makes us all human It's not love after someone has cheated on you

The Ethical Challenges Self Driving Will Face Everyday

The element that is constantly being seen in this story is Pathos since there are many people who will read this article. This means that everyone will have different opinions on the article and this can actually end up confusing the readers of what the author is trying to express. This article can end up making the readers have mix emotions on whether they agree or not with the making of self driving cars and what they are capable of doing. Besides Pathos being the main element used in the article, I would say Kairos is the next big element. Today self-driving cars are trending more than they were before since the technology is more advanced now.

Ancient Rhetoric in Modern Times

As I read the article on the ethics of self-driving cars, the elements of ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos that jumped out at me were : Ethos - Diana Divecha, she has a PhD in physiology. Johannes Himmelreich, he's a philosopher who works with engineers at Stanford's Center for Automotive Research Pathos - The way bullying is expressed and who are the ones who usually get bullied. Johannes seems more easygoing towards self-driving cars Logos - Johannes speaks about the one person getting killed by a self-driving vehicle  Karios - Due to how advanced technology is right now, self-driving cars seem to be really in right now I think that these elements make the reader understand more about the topic (self-driving cars). Ethos informs the reader about the person who wrote the article and pathos helps the reader understand how passionate the author is about writing. While logos gives the reader some evidence/stats to show the reader that what he/she is talki

A Second Of Helping Of Socratic Seminar

Right : something that everyone must  honor A person's right creates an obligation for another person For example: if someone is crossing the street and there's a car coming, the car has the obligation to stop Everyone always wants to fit in  Having the right to your opinion can sometimes cause an argument to come to an end When you claim the right to your opinion, the truth isn't always said Syllogism - simple form of an argument Limbic area governs our emotions

Getting To Know You

There are many reasons why it's important to get to know the people around you.  We get to learn more about each other The people around us challenge us to want to become a better person They become good resources (we can count on them) Share ideas/strategies They listen to what we have to say Motivation Getting along with your classmates is better than having zero connection with them Help us understand things we don't quite understand Today's experience helped us communicate with everyone in the class, which we wouldn't normally do. This got us to get up and move around the classroom. Since we had to walk around and look for someone who we thought 'the fact' belonged to, we actually got to learn something about that person.

Training Like A Memory Champion

Reading this article helped me understand some of the methods out in the world that can actually help us remember things. For instance, something that stood out to me was the way to remember numbers. The writer says that " Phone numbers, for example, come pre-chunked. We don’t write, or recite, phone numbers as a single digit. 3419108550 is more manageable when written, or recited, as 341-910-8550." This is surprising because most of us don't actually think about this when it comes to numbers, specifically phone numbers. This is a certain to remember people's phone numbers and avoid constantly asking again and again. The overall point of the article is to remind that we don't have to be the smartest person or have the best memory to remember things.

WHERE I'D LOVE TO TRAVEL (CREATIVE POST #1)

There are so many beautiful places in the world and everyone has their own idea on where they would love to travel. I know for a fact that I would love to travel to Europe and turns out I might actually get the chance to do so. There's this field trip that is taking place to Europe in June 2021, and I'm not 100% sure if I want to go. I mean part of me really wants to go but the other half of me knows that I'll probably back out when the time comes. I know that this is a once in a life time opportunity and I know I should take advantage of it because if I'm being honest, the chances of me traveling in the future are very low. Let me just talk about the reasons why I would travel to Europe (specifically PARIS, SPAIN, ROME, AND PORTUGAL). To start off, who wouldn't want to go to Europe I mean it's one of the most beautiful continents in the world. I've always dreamt about seeing the Eiffel Tower and now I might get to actually see it. Paris isn't the only p

A DAY IN MY LIFE (CREATIVE POST #3)

I live my life like any other 16 year old girl would. My routine stays the same during week days and only changes on weekends. On Mondays through Fridays I wake up around 7 to get ready to go to school. I'm someone who prefers going to school instead of being home because it gets me out of doing chores, well most of the time. I have the same classes the entire week, which kind of gets boring because you see the same people again and again. The only classes I actually enjoy going to are Chemistry and Math, which happen to be the last classes I have. I enjoy talking to my friends as well as doing work. After school ends, I walk home and eat some food as soon as I get there, because I'm always hungry, since I don't eat at school (the food is disgusting and I'm a very picky person). Once I finish eating, I do a little bit of chores and then I start my homework, that way I have time to go out for a walk or to play in the evening. I don't take long to do my homework so th

MY MOTTO FOR LIFE (CREATIVE POST #2)

Image
Motto : "You can't start a new chapter if you re-read the last one"  This isn't a motto I came up with or anything, this is just something something that has always stood out to me. To me this simply means that we aren't going to move on with our lives if we're constantly thinking about the past. I am someone who usually keeps the things I've done in the past from allowing to move forward but I don't whether this is a good thing or bad thing. I mean sometimes it's not bad to look back at the things you did in the past because those things can actually help you become a better person. Like many people, I've made mistakes in the past and there are times where I use this as an excuse to avoid doing something/allowing myself to move on. Last year, I made one of the dumbest decisions of my life and I wish I could go back and change things, but unfortunately I can't. I have to learn to live with this mistake/regret for the rest of my life and a

Conscience of a Hacker

The author continues to use the phrase "They're all alike" throughout the entire story He seems to not like people and their way of judging him The way the author describes things, seems to show his desire towards adults A quote that stuck out to me from this story was : "My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like." It's unfortunate that we live in a world where we are constantly being judged based on the way we look. I mean when are we going to stop getting judged by the way we look and be seen as who we are on the inside instead of our appearance on the outside.

Big Brother First Impression

The importance of  clarity and concise language and how those elements affect political writing. Modern language is in decline, since it is overly complicated without any legitimate purpose Orwell argues that the English language becomes “ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.” This kind of language, overly fraught with large words without conveying significant meaning, is exceptionally susceptible to being used in propaganda. Orwell  believes that this type of speech is inherently insincere, and that is why it is so useful as propaganda. One of the most interesting actions he takes in this essay is to translate a passage from the Biblical text of Ecclesiastes.  Orwell uses the writing of two professors, a Communist pamphlet, an essay on psychology in Politics , and a letter in the Tribune. All these examples, Orwell argues, have two common faults: staleness of imagery and lack

Having the Time of my Life

How can understanding your time use help you improve the decisions you make about how to use your time?  I think that understanding your time can help you improve the decisions you make about how to use your time because it shows what you are capable of doing in a certain amount of time. I personally try to use my time wisely but there are certain times where I  just get lazy and stop doing things I know I actually have time for. Over the past years, there have been things that I've taken into consideration such as,not leaving the things you have time for today for tomorrow and taking advantage of every moment in your life. I try to make the best of everyday, even though there are times where I know that I'm not feeling well at all. Not to mention that there are certain days where listening to music actually makes me feel sad and I don't know why. Instead of feeling sad, I know I should be feeling happy, buy you can't always be happy and there are even times where fa

INVESTING IN ME

How am I going to start fundraising for my life after high school? So far, I haven't found a job but I honestly want to start working because I'm tired of my parents just giving me money. They give me money for doing chores, when in reality this is something that I'm going to be doing once I move out and go to college. I've looked for some jobs online but I'm kind of scared of applying since it's going to be my first time working. And I know that if I never start working then I'm never going to learn anything. Not only that but I'm also not going to have money to pay for anything, which means that I probably won't go to a university. I know that if I don't work anywhere then I'm never going to have any experience and I'll probably end up being a lazy person living with her parents. I get that it's important to work and earn your own money but it could be challenging for those who are shy. I guess we have to learn that working and ge

Letter to Mentor

Dear mentor,        Hello! My name is Angela Espinoza and I'm your average 16 year old who has yet to decide what she wants to do in life. I have some ideas in mind but I haven't quite decided yet. All I know is that I want to do something that has to do with soccer because turns out, I truly enjoy watching it and even though I'm not the best when it comes to actually playing, I really love soccer. I've reached out to you, hoping you would be able to help me think of some career options that include soccer, since you happen to be one of the greatest soccer players of all time. I come from a family who loves soccer but to be completely honest I wasn't much of a soccer fan when I was younger. I would always go to my dad's soccer games and I wouldn't understand anything. It wasn't until the beginning of high school when I actually started not only enjoying soccer but actually playing it as well. Since then, I've been watching soccer a whole lot more

Rhetorical Strategies Part 1

ETHOS - credibility and ethics   - Johannes Himmelreich (the author of this story) is a philosopher who works with engineers at Stanford's Center for Automotive Research -  Diana Divecha - credible because she has a PHD in phycology and she's an assistant clinical professor at Yale child study center for emotional intelligence which makes her credible to talk about bullying PATHOS - emotions and feelings -Diana Divecha: " S chools with a positive climate foster healthy development, while a negative school climate is associated with higher rates of student bullying, aggression, victimization, and feeling unsafe." - Diana Divecha: " A majority of teachers report that they feel unprepared to deal with classroom bullying. Some teachers bully students themselves , or show a lack of empathy toward children who are bullied." - Diana Divecha: " Do leaders understand that uninterrupted, severe bullying can confer lifelong negative consequences o

The Value of my Time

I personally think that it's really important to value your time wisely and not let any minute go by without doing anything. I always try to invest my time in the best way possible and make the best decisions that will help me later on in the future. Benjamin Franklin once said "Time is money" and this always reminds that the things we do and when we choose to do them is key in life. One of the things I invest most of my time doing is homework because it's really important to keep up with everything I'm learning in school and I have make sure I understand everything we're doing in class. Without a doubt, I would say that I invest a significant of time in my family because I think that family is one of the most important things in life. I feel my best self whenever I spend time with my family and I usually try to enjoy every minute I'm with them. My family and I go out to the park every Sunday to watch my older brother's soccer game and we normally try

My Thesis Statement

The main point of my essay was to figure out what the theme of Nathaniel Hawthorne's essay was and how it compares to other stories. I think that the thesis statement of any essay is what makes it interesting and it somewhat makes it easier for the readers to understand what the essay is going to be about. I personally think that a thesis statement can make it easier to reflect on a story like "Young Goodman Brown" with a prompt because the reader already has an idea in mind on what the story/essay is going to be about. A thesis statement helps the reader focus more on the main idea and it helps create a clear idea on what the story is going to be about. Basically the thesis statement sets up the reader for the entire idea and helps them understand what the essay is going to be about. The thesis in my essay essay states what the essay is going to be about and it helps the reader decide whether or not they're interested in reading it.

First Impression : On Self-Reliance

Nature is primal Latin makes the story more ancient original - distinct admonition - a lecture or a warning When someone says something more original, it captures our attention Not everything that is said is set to be true for everyone People who say things and don't care whether you like it or not It's the belief that is genius not the actual thought There are a few of us who hear opinions from someone else and claim them as ours My first impression on this is that the beginning of it is what really captures my attention because there are a few of us who don't understand what  "Ne te quaesiveris extra" which makes us think and want to keep reading.  There are some parts in the story that I don't agree with. For instance I disagree with the fact that he thinks that just because someone believes something that others don't agree with, the best thing to do is for that person to keep their beliefs. The world we live in today is nothing lik

So This Guy Goes For A Walk

Ray Bradbury wrote "The Pedestrian" because he wanted to show how technology will take over society. He strongly believes that the domination of technology will lead to conformity, lack of imagination, and individualism. It is the year 2052 and the individual is out on walks where the streets are lonely and people are at home watching television. When Mead gets pulled over by a cop and taken into custody because according to the cop, his actions are out of the ordinary. The theme is that technology has a negative impact on society and if we spend so much time using it, then things are going to change but not for the better good. This is already a problem that is going on right now and many of us don't see it but if we don't come to the conclusion that this a serious problem that will have negative outcomes, then no one is going to be able to stop it in the future. We have to take control of the amount of technology we use and we have to make sure that it doesn't h

"On Self-Reliance" Part 5

After I finished reading "On Self-Reliance" I feel like there were a couple of lessons that Emerson wanted us to learn. Such as "To be great is to be misunderstood" meaning that sometime when we do things we believe are best for us, there are some people who will not understand nor agree with what we're doing.  At the end of the story he reminds us that being true to ourselves is the best thing one can do. He says " Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles." To me this means that we shouldn't always believe in what others say but instead we should stay true to what we believe in, even if it means being seen different.

On Self- Reliance Part 2

Basically the entire essay seems to be about Emerson proving to us how important it is for one to stay true to themselves. “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” - Emerson  Emerson thinks that kids have no talent We are the best person when we can be when we try our best If we don't express  the way we feel, then our thoughts and opinions will never be heard

The Art of Hosting Good Conversations Online

There are many ways to have a good conversation with someone online. Here's a list of a few of the things you can do to have a good conversation : You can encourage people to talk amongst themselves Stick to one topic Listen to the opinions/thoughts of everyone Take every idea into consideration Maintain a connection Avoid taking one side over the other Have fun and enjoy everything that's going on Set up a good example Be fair Listen to what others are saying Be welcoming  Be inclusive

"On Self-Reliance" Part 4

When we learn a new idea, we physically change our mind It's not about being loyal to an idea, it's about being opened to it "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" "To be great is to be misunderstand" Have your ideas that can be different from the ones you had yesterday and it's okay to not care about what others think ONE TENDENCY UNITES THEM ALL THE FORCE OF CHARACTER ADDS UP OVER TIME " Honor is venerable to us because it is no ephemeris. It is always ancient virtue. We worship it to-day because it is not of to-day. We love it and pay it homage, because it is not a trap for our love and homage, but is self-dependent, self-derived, and therefore of an old immaculate pedigree, even if shown in a young person. The people earn are respect are who they are a nd inspire us

"On Self-Reliance Part 3"

"Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind." Life circumstances changing does not change who we are Malice - evil intention Vanity - meant to look good Turns out to be a family of drug dealers Don't act like you're god if you're actually not When something is good, say something about it Emerson is against generosity (Acting like you care but you actually don't) People who are not actually nice usually do a deed to make up for it Do what concerns you, not what the people think Specific attorneys seen as troops; officers that tell the truth Hope of inspiration to search for the truth The people around us are the ones who actually give us inspiration, not celebs or other famous people The game is bigger than the player Brings people together with more integrity rather than breaking them apart.
