Ancient Rhetoric in Modern Times
As I read the article on the ethics of self-driving cars, the elements of ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos that jumped out at me were :
- Ethos - Diana Divecha, she has a PhD in physiology. Johannes Himmelreich, he's a philosopher who works with engineers at Stanford's Center for Automotive Research
- Pathos - The way bullying is expressed and who are the ones who usually get bullied. Johannes seems more easygoing towards self-driving cars
- Logos - Johannes speaks about the one person getting killed by a self-driving vehicle
- Karios - Due to how advanced technology is right now, self-driving cars seem to be really in right now
I think that these elements make the reader understand more about the topic (self-driving cars). Ethos informs the reader about the person who wrote the article and pathos helps the reader understand how passionate the author is about writing. While logos gives the reader some evidence/stats to show the reader that what he/she is talking about it real. Finally kairos captures the attention of the readers.
