The Great Gatsby Chapter 3


  • Gatsby became famous because he throws elaborate parties every weekend at this mansion
  • One day Nick receives an invitation to Gatsby's party
  • Nick learns that he is one of the few people to get invited and he also learns most people simply arrive at Gatsby's house, expecting there to be a party in progress
  • Nick tries to find Gatsby and comes to the conclusion that no one seems to know Gatsby
  • Nick runs into Jordan Baker, Daisy's friend whom he met at the dinner party. They hangout over hear and share several rumors about Gatsby killed a man and another where he produces and markets alcohol illegally 
  • Nick starts a conversation with a man, who turns out to be Gatsby
  • Gatsby invited Nick to go up in his hydroplane but he needs to talk to Jordan first
  • When Jordan returned to Nick, she didn't say anything about what her and Gatsby discussed but she did say it was "the most amazing thing"
  • Nick says goodnight to Gatsby and walks home, nothing a drunken party that has put their car in a ditch near Gatsby's house
  • Nick says he's worked, made friends, with some other derks, and a shot affair with a girl from work; all during summer
  • He spent time at the Yale Club and the library 
  • He tried learning more about Jordan Baker and discovered that she had been accused of cheating at gold and she was actually quite dishonest
