Literature Analysis

1. The plot of "The Sun is Also a Star" by Nicola Yoon is about this young woman named Natasha who is set to be deported back to Jamaica along with her family, but that same day she has an appointment with an immigration lawyer. There's also Daniel who is a young Korean-American man whose parents want him to become a lawyer. These two meet that same day when Daniel saves Natasha from getting hit by a car and Daniel who believes in fate seems to believe that they were destined to meet. On the contrary, Natasha doesn't believe in any of that but still gives Daniel the chance to get to know each other with the exception that he doesn't fall in love with her since she will be leaving soon. As the day goes by, Daniel confesses to Natasha that he loves her and he even does an experiment with her to make her believe that the chemistry between them is real. Unfortunately at the end of the day, Natasha and Daniel go their own way after they find out she'll be leaving but they still promised to stay in touch. We all know that as time goes by long distance relationships start to fall apart and that happened to Daniel and Natasha but this book had a happy ending when they reunited ten years later on an airplane.

2. The theme of this book is fate and love because Daniel is trying to prove to Natasha that they were destined/meant to meet each other. He also wants to show her that it is possible to fall in love with someone in just one day and it doesn't matter if you were just strangers yesterday.

3. Based on the Nicola Yoon's tone, I imagine the her morning to be very positive and calm since the way she writes the book seems to be with so much imagination and happiness. I picture her as a person who sleeps early to wake up early so she can start writing some more. Obviously she drinks some coffee every morning and eats a good breakfast to get all the energy she needs to find the perfect words that fit in with her books. How could I forget, I see her being a loving and romance fanatic since she's written many books about love. One of the quotes from the books that stood out to me was, "“Maybe part of falling in love with someone else is also falling in love with yourself.” This stuck out to me because I've been told in the past that you have to learn to love yourself first before you love anyone else and seeing this line just proved this saying right. A part that also stuck out to me was when Natasha said "I don't believe in love" and Daniel responded saying "It's not religion. It exists whether you believe in it or not." This part caught my eye because the words she chose to use stick out since there words we don't usually here on thee daily basis. Nicola also seems to use some sad examples in this book that unfortunately are true. For example, when she wrote “People just want to believe. Otherwise they would have to admit that life is just a random series of good and bad things that happen until one day you die.” The words made me realize that it's not always good to just keep believing that good things are always going to be happening because life is not just full of happy moments.
